Movie: The Last Days Of Disco

the last days of disco

The Last Days of Disco
Directed By Whit Stillman

Starring

Chloë Sevigny
Kate Beckinsale

The Last Days Of Disco is one of the truly classic movies regarding New York City life.
In some ways, nothing really changed about the city, but in a lot of ways, everything has changed.

Watch it, here.

Film: Downtown 81- Starring Jean Michel Basquiat

basquiat
By Jean Michel Basquiat

Jean Michel Basquiat is one of my favorite painters and the newest source of inspiration for Unwritten Prophecy Clothing. His ability to take current and political ideas and infuse them into neo-expressionism, make his art infamous, with the likes of Andy Warhol, who was also a good friend, collaborator and mentor of his. Jean's movie, Downtown 81, shows the story of his life, living as a starving artist during the late 70's and early 80's. The movie itself is shot in avante-garde and it's narrated by Jean Michel. He inspires me so much! I only wish he were still alive, today.

Alexander McQueen @ The Metropolitan Museum of Art

Don't forget to go see Alexander McQueen's Savage Beauty Collection at the Museum of Modern Art, which, because of such high popularity, has been extended till August 2011. I had to own a piece of Alexander's Collection so I picked up one of his shirts from Bergdorf Goodman last week just to be apart of his everlasting history. RIP Alexander McQueen.

Nas & Damian "Jr. Gong" Marley - As We Enter

Nas

Nas has always been one of my favorite underground rappers. Now he's teamed up with the the likes of Damian Marley to produce, "As We Enter", a fusion of reggae and rap, that's soon to be a classic.

Big Sean Performs Live On Jimmy Kimmel

finally famous the album

Big Sean performs live on Jimmy Kimmel's late night show, debuting his new single "My Last", a smooth hip-hop Jam about doing it big till it's over and done. His charisma and flow makes Big Sean a remarkable rapper, transcending any musical genre, from his catchy hooks to his powerful metaphors. Finally Famous the album drops in June. Don't forget to cop that.

Cool Cinematography

Scintillation by Xavier Chassing

This short takes me on a trip into the sublime, down memory road, back when I was 17 again. Everything was so new and fresh and the world was full of mystery. What a beautifully shot piece of work.

Video: Iron Solomon - Sucker MC's ft. DMC

Iron Solomon is back with another track off his album, Monster, set to drop in Fall of 2011! I´ve been anticipating it forever! Iron, whose rap style is old-school, brings an arsenal on this track, with the likes of DMC, from Run DMC! The video is fresh to death and cinematically, superior. Big ups to Iron, in his ability to transcend from freestyle battle rap to lyrical hip-hop. Iron is welding himself into a fine musician, check it out.

Video: Beyoncé- Run The World (Girls)

Beyoncé's "Run This World" looks like an attack from the Amazons in leather jackets and heels. The cinematography is pretty fresh as is the way the video is styled. The lyrics could be better, although what Beyoncé lacks in lyricism, she makes up with charisma.

The Hangover 2 - Official Trailer

The Hangover: Part 2, surfaces in theaters

May 26th!

So excited, and it looks like this movie may have more laughs than the first!

Video: Pusha-T: BLOW

Pusha-T is cranking out his music videos faster than the speed of light, off hit new mixtape, Fear of God. Pusha, whose never too shy to discuss his life as a cocaine dealer, deals some of the toughest and most thoughtful rythmes sequences in the game. His ability to stay true to his life's story, while also being eloquent and stylish, makes Pusha the full package.

Chiddy Bang- Peanut Butter and Swelly Video

Chiddy bang

On the forefront of their new mixtape, Peanut Butter and Swelly, Chiddy Bang has come together with director Mike Carson to film a trailer in order to hype up the record, using one of their latest songs as a teaser. The video is based in New York City and it shows the duo in their natural state, going to a deli for Peanut Butter & Jelly! Chiddy Bang is real and credible, that's what makes their music so eatable!

The Adventures of Tintin (Movie Trailer)

Tintin

The Adventures of Tintin, directed by Steven Spielberg and produced by Peter Jackson, surfaces Christmas 2011, to fans all over the world, including myself. If you don't already know this, I own every single Tintin comic that exists in English. Tintin, a comic based on a child detective, his dog Snowy and an avid array of cooky characters, team up to solve mysteries together, getting into all sorts of trouble along the way. I'm so excited for this movie! Probably more than most people! Maybe the movie will capture a new fan base.

Charlie Sheen (Official Music Video)- Jin x Dumbfoundead x Traphik

charlie sheen

Charlie Sheen has had too much Charlie Sheen lately and I think, at this point, we can admit that he's mentally unstable. On the other hand, Jin, a long-time-gone, rapper returns and spits fire with his crew on their official Charlie Sheen Music Video. I'm glad he's back, I've been rooting for him ever since his lost battle rap to Iron Solomon (Although Solomon destroyed him). Check it their new video out, here.

Common Performs at the White House

Common

Michelle Obama's Poetry Night at the White House, was a success amid conservative controversy that sparked over Common's lyric, "burn a bush", in context to George Bush, in 2007. Common spit a lyrical flow concerning the socio-economic struggle of the American people, his positive message and high hopes for the future, made his performance genuine and significant. I'm glad to see conscious rap actually making an impact in our world!

But unfortunately, because of Common's liberal lyrics the.....

white house common

had to make sure that the President was opposed to such devious views:

While the president doesn’t support the kind of lyrics that have been raised here,” Carney said, “some of these reports distort what Mr. Lynn stands for more broadly,” referring to Common by his given name, Lonnie Rashid Lynn, Jr. “Within that genre of hip hop and rap he is known as…a conscious rapper.”

Everyone knows Obama called Common later that night to commend him and explained that this is how politics works.

Lupe Fiasco- Words I Never Said Ft. Skylar Grey

Although Lupe Fiasco's latest album, Lasers, was a major flop, a few instances of genius make the record. "Words I Never Said" is a political cry for peace and for me, it's the best song to make the album. The video is also extremely vivid and controversial. What do you think?
