Common Performs at the White House

Common

Michelle Obama's Poetry Night at the White House, was a success amid conservative controversy that sparked over Common's lyric, "burn a bush", in context to George Bush, in 2007. Common spit a lyrical flow concerning the socio-economic struggle of the American people, his positive message and high hopes for the future, made his performance genuine and significant. I'm glad to see conscious rap actually making an impact in our world!




But unfortunately, because of Common's liberal lyrics the.....

had to make sure that the President was opposed to such devious views:

While the president doesn’t support the kind of lyrics that have been raised here,” Carney said, “some of these reports distort what Mr. Lynn stands for more broadly,” referring to Common by his given name, Lonnie Rashid Lynn, Jr. “Within that genre of hip hop and rap he is known as…a conscious rapper.”

Everyone knows Obama called Common later that night to commend him and explained that this is how politics works.
